All of our courses travel through diverse landscapes, introduce students to various adventure activities, and allow students to acquire knowledge and skills in a variety of areas. Our goal is to provide our students with a strong understanding of backcountry wilderness skills, the techniques associated with each activity in which we engage, and with an understanding of the geology, history, native people, flora and fauna, and, most importantly, a greater understanding of themselves and their relationship to the world around them. We have designed our courses with the aim to provide an environment which fosters leadership and teamwork skills, encourages students to gain self-confidence, build lasting friendships, and have a summer filled with fun and adventure. At Pangaea Quest student safety is our top priority. All trips that Pangaea Quest operates consist of small close-knit groups with a maximum of 10-12 adventurers and a minimum of 2 leaders, with at least one female instructor accompanying each trip. During the climbing, rafting, whitewater kayaking, and sea kayaking portions of each trip we employ additional experienced and professional instructors to assist with each activity. The Farm at South Mountain
City: Phoenix
Tel: +1 602 276 6360
In the early 1920's, Dwight Heard (benefactor of the Heard Museum) acquired a large parcel of land from 7th Avenue to 48th Street, and from the Salt River bed to the foothills of South Mountain. He subdivided the property in two-acre parcels and sold them for the whopping sum of $1,150 to $1, 500, with the distinct purpose of promoting self-sufficiency. Heard offered a cow and fifty chickens with each purchase. In keeping with the early philosophy, the ten acres just south of Southern and 32nd Street was planted with 100 pecan trees, and for over 40 years was nurtured by a retired cattleman by the name of Skeeter Covendale. Ultimately Skeeter determined it was too much work to care for the trees and harvest the 5,000 pounds of nuts each year. He wanted to move to Punkin Center where he could buy a trailer, "drink beer, swat flies, and tell lies" - so he did!A Wayne Smith, a well-known Phoenix landscape architect, purchased the property from Skeeter in 1983. The great trees give a wondrous sense of rural tranquility, and it is Mr. Smith's vision that has guided The Farm over the years into what you see today and what you will see in the future.

Taylor's Chowder House
City: Phoenix
Tel: +1 602 978 1815
Taylor's concept came about in 1980 when David Taylor opened a small Fresh Fish Market and Seafood "cooked to order" kitchen in Glendale, Arizona. The "Shanty" as it was called had four benches in a dirt parking lot for seating. There was no beer or wine so guests were encouraged to BYOB. It wasn't long before the "Shanty" caught on with people coming from all over to get Taylor's fresh whole bellied clams from Boston, the fresh Oysters from Baltimore, fresh Haddock and Chips etc.The popularity prompted David to open the "Shanty Too" on 16th Street south of Thomas in 1983. The fish market was dropped but the same menu was used along with a larger indoor dining room. It became apparent that the next step was to open Taylor's Chowder House with casual dining, cocktails, and fresh specials daily. David sold the other establishments and in 1985 opened what is now Taylor's. The restaurant took over additional space in 1988 and added liquor along with another small dining room.

Heard Museum
City: Phoenix
Tel: +1 602 252 8848
For nearly 75 years, the Heard Museum has been a Phoenix landmark, a place where visitors from across the globe come to learn about the region's Native cultures and art. With every exhibit the Heard presents, education plays a major role throughout the planning process. Unlike many museums that show "objects on a shelf," the Heard strives to present voices and perceptions of the people who made the work on display, and Native American consultants play a vital role in the development of every exhibition. With its latest expansion in 1999, the Heard Museum encompasses 130,000 square feet of galleries, classrooms and performance spaces. That's more than eight times the size of the original structure built in 1929 to house the personal collections of Phoenix residents Dwight and Maie Heard.Dwight Bancroft Heard moved to Chicago from Wayland, Mass., shortly after high school. He began working at Hibbard, Spencer and Bartlett Company, one of the biggest wholesale hardware companies in the country and the precursor of True-Value Hardware Stores. While there, Dwight Heard was a protégé of Adolphus Bartlett and subsequently met Bartlett's daughter, Maie Bartlett. In 1893, Dwight Heard and Maie Bartlett were married. Just one year later, the couple headed for a warmer, dryer climate after Dwight was diagnosed with lung ailments. After traveling throughout the Southwest, the young couple settled in Phoenix in 1895.
