After Joe married Sally Crouse in 1957, he built a second room with a fireplace. The Munger's homesteaded 160 acres in Silver Salmon Creek in 1960. The Munger's also had a cabin on Chisik Island, along with three fishing sites. Both Joe and Sally fished in the summers, selling fish to local canneries. Joe had a trap line in the winter where he trapped beaver, wolverine, marten, fox, etc. The original homestead has been renovated into a rustic, beautiful lodge for guests to enjoy, along with the picturesque surroundings and adventurous, fun activities. Enjoy a piece of history at the Alaska Homestead Lodge.

Guth's Lodge
City: Soldotna
Tel: +1 907 262 2392
Our lodge is located one and one-half miles up the Iliamna River from it's confluence with Iliamna Lake and three miles from the short piece of road linking Iliamna Lake with Cook Inlet. This has to be one of the most scenic areas in Alaska, with the high majestic Chigmit Mountains, glaciers, volcanoes, clear running streams, and hundreds of small lakes as well as Lake Iliamna, the largest lake in the state. We realize the importance of comfort in Alaska's climate and for this reason, all boats except the small fishing skiffs are cabined and heated. Hot water and coffee are readily available on all trips as a service to our guests. We have a float plane to reach the out-of-the-way spots that are only accessible from the air. In good weather you can't beat flight-seeing some of the Alaska scenery. Most Alaska visitors will never have the opportunity to see the real grandeur of the Alaska bush the way our clients can. Safety is always the number one priority at Guth's Lodge, and we may on occasion cancel flight-seeing and ocean fishing if we consider conditions unsafe.

Silver Salmon Creek Lodge
City: Soldotna
Tel: +1 907 262 4839
As the owner of Silver Salmon Creek Lodge, I'd like to share a little of my back-ground and welcome you to browse through our web site. I came to Alaska at age 2, in 1953, my parents being school teachers in the Lake Clark/Lake Iliamna area. My first memories in life revolved around playing outdoors and witnessing scenes of abundant fishing, hunting, and boating in Alaska's wild " bush," where we lived in a log cabin, packed our own water, and enjoyed a robust and rewarding lifestyle.Later, after my father was lost in a plane crash, we moved to the Kenai Peninsula, where I graduated from high school. Psychology was my subject of interest in college, which I studied at the University of Alaska at Fairbanks. After working several years at a group home for troubled adolescents, I decided there was no better way to blend my love for the outdoors and still work with people than by establishing a wilderness facility where I could appreciate both.

Max Schwab Master Guide
City: Talkeetna
Tel: +1 907 733 2681
We're based in Talkeetna, Alaska, which is about 100 miles north of Anchorage and near Denali National Park. It is a village of about 600 people. The region is very beautiful wild and remote, and rich in Alaska history. Denali stands watch not far from our doorstep. The Talkeetna area offers some unique opportunities for wilderness adventures because we are surrounded by mountains: the Alaska Range arcs around us to the west and the Talkeetna Mountains close the circle on the east. Three major rivers converge here and several others feed those.Talkeetna is the starting point for many adventures: mountain climbing, hunting, rafting, fishing, hiking, skiing, camping. The terrain consists of broad river valleys surrounded by mountains with spruce and birch forests interspersed with muskegs in the lower elevations and open tundra higher up. The rivers and lakes and the glaciers and mountain valleys that feed them are beautiful and unspoiled. You will be sharing your surroundings with a variety of wildlife: moose, grizzly and brown bears, sheep, caribou, eagles, otters, waterfowl and many other creatures. Salmon spawn in the rivers and the trout grayling and char are there as well. Summer weather varies from warm sunny days to wind and rain, with temperatures between 25 and 75 degrees. Fall and spring temperatures vary from 10 to 50 degrees.

Prince William Sound Books
City: Valdez
Tel: +1 907 835 5175
Prince William Sound with its 3,000 miles of shoreline is surrounded by the Chugach Mountains to the east, west and north. Fifty-mile long Montague Island and several smaller islands form natural breakwaters between the Sound and the Gulf of Alaska. Between the barrier islands stretch underwater sills separating the Sound's deep waters from the much shallower waters of the Gulf. Deep water renewal occurs during the winter when cold winds from interior Alaska cool the surface waters causing them to sink, while the warmer bottom water rises to the surface bringing rich nutrients which support huge plankton blooms in the spring.Millions of years of glaciation gradually carved away a coastal plateau creating the sound with its many tributary fiords and passageways, islands and rocky shores. Fewer than 10,000 people live in the three towns-Whittier, Valdez, and Cordova- and two native villages-Chenega and Tatitlek situated on the shores of the Sound. Because the Sound was formed by millions of years of glaciation, its shorelines are heavily indented by deep fiords and many smaller bays. No roads connect these communities.
