The Bering Land
Bridge National Preserve
City: Nome
Tel: +1 907 443 2522
The Bering Land Bridge National Preserve is one of the most remote national park areas,
located on the Seward Peninsula in northwest Alaska. The Preserve is a remnant of the land
bridge that connected Asia with North America more than 13,000 years ago. The majority of
this land bridge, once thousands of miles wide, now lies beneath the waters of the Chukchi
and Bering Seas.During the glacial epoch this was part of a migration route for people,
animals, and plants whenever ocean levels fell enough to expose the land bridge.
Archeologists agree that it was across this Bering Land Bridge, also called Beringia, that
humans first passed from Asia to populate the Americas. The Preserve's western boundary
lies 42 miles from the Bering Strait and the fishing boundary between the United States
and Russia.

original log cabin. The BLM land surrounding the lodge was designated Lake Clark National
Park by President Carter in the early 80's. In 1980, an air taxi owner and guide purchased
the property. He built and ran Redoubt as a fishing lodge for a number of years. In 1991,
Harold Nye purchased the fishing lodge and continued operations until 1995 when it became
a private retreat.Eric and Shan Johnson, owners of Northwoods Lodge on the Yentna River,
secured an option on the property. Wayne and Jeanie Holm became partners and the lodge was
purchased in July 2000. The lodge was closed in 2000 while upgrades and renovations were
being made. Now we have a premier wilderness facility to offer, and one of the best fly-in

Enjoy small group whale watching, wildlife and glacier tours from Seward, Alaska, with
Alaska Saltwater Lodge. Most tour operators conduct their wildlife and glacier tours with
groups of 100 or even 200 or more passengers. We are more interested in quality than
quantity and therefore limit our group size to 15 or fewer and can arrange for tours with
as few as 2 people. With smaller groups we can position the boat so everyone gets a
perfect view. We take extra effort so you will never miss that photo opportunity of a
lifetime. We are often asked, What is the difference between our tour and the tours offered
by the other companies? While we specialize in and only do small group tours, the
following testimonial probably explains this better than I can.

City: Skagway

Deishu, Tlingit indian word, meaning beginning or end of the trail. Skagway has always
been the end of one journey and the beginning of another. From its earliest days, the
steam ships brought the stampeders and their supplies from Seattle to the end of the
inside passage. A journey in itself but only the beginning of the trail over the White
Pass or the Chilkoot to the gold fields. The Whitepass railroad, and the Klondike
highway's mile zero are both in Skagway. It is the end of the marine highway system up the
inside passage. The barge lines carrying supplies to Skagway and the interior of Canada
terminate in Skagway. There is lead and zinc ore hauled by road from the interior of
Canada to a terminal in Skagway where it goes by ship to ports all over the world. The
beginning or end, mile zero either way. For you Mile Zero can be a new beginning or end of
your own adventure.
