Selma To Montgomery National Historic Trail

In an effort to dramatize the need for voting rights legislation, a peaceful non-violent march from Selma to Montgomery was planned. On March 7, 1965 the march set out from Brown Chapel AME Church in Selma, Alabama. Once the marchers reached the Edmund Pettus Bridge, they were brutally beaten by law enforcement officers. The event was televised all across the nation. Two days later, Dr. King led a second march from Brown Chapel towards Montgomery; this march was peacefully turned around at the point of confrontation. On March 21, 1965 a third march under the protection of the National Guard began at Brown Chapel once again and successfully made its way to the State Capital in Montgomery in five days, after walking 54 miles. This monumental event captured by news media brought the struggle of voting rights of African Americans to the forefront of this nation's conscious. As a result, Congress rushed to enact legislation that would guarantee voting rights for all Americans. President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Voting Rights Act on August 6, 1965.

Stripe Fishing
City: Morris
Tel: +1 205 647 7683
Thank you for visiting Stripe Fishing Headquarters. This is a full time striper guide service, which operates year round on Smith Lake in north central Alabama. The purpose of this striped bass guide service is to assure you of a quality, safe and memorable fishing trip. I am very knowledgeable of Smith Lake and the fishing in its waters. In 1970, as a young teenage boy fishing with my father, I caught a 7-pound largemouth bass during one of our many fishing trips on Smith Lake. Little did I know that this fish and this lake would lead to a professional career.Catching this fish created within me a passion for fishing. As I grew up, I spent countless hours fishing with my father and high school and college friends on Smith Lake.My professional fishing career started by winning numerous local bass tournaments on Smith Lake and other lakes in Alabama. In 1985, I won the Anderson Boat night tournament held on Smith Lake with a field of 700 boats. At the time, this was the largest bass tournament ever held in the state of Alabama. I also started competing in regional bass tournaments such as the Hungry Fisherman Bass Circuit where during the first year of competition, I finished 3rd overall in the yearly points standings. Two other fishing accomplishments that I am proud of are a 3rd place finish in 1986 at the Bill Dance Bass Homecoming Tournament held at Chattanooga, Tennessee, and in 1987, I qualified for the U.S. Bass World Championship held on the Savannah River at Augusta, Georgia.

The Brock House Bed & Breakfast
City: New Brockton

The Brock House Bed & Breakfast was built in 1906 by Huey E. Brock for his son Albert Brock. Mister Huey E. Brock built the first residence in New Brockton in 1871 in a heavily wooded area. He also built the first store in New Brockton to serve the settlers in nearby communities. In the next nine years, there were fourteen stores built by other settlers. In 1888 a fire destroyed all the stores. This was a great loss to the early settlers who had to travel long distances for supplies. With the Brock family influence and support, the stores were all rebuilt. The first post office was in Mr. Brock's store and a cane mill belonging to Mr. Brock was located on what is now Main Street, which is also Highway 84. Mr Brock's mule business was located between Main Street and the Brock House and was still standing in 1977 when the Driskells purchased the Brock house. The Brock house was transformed into a bed and breakfast in 1999. Now it may be enjoyed by our guests.

Twincreek Hunting Club
City: Opelika
Tel: +1 334 745 4815
My Alabama hunting club has 6200 acres, I have it divided into 3 sides. East,West and North. This is mainly because of the preferences of my membership. Some like one side , some the other, and it keeps everything simple. The east side has 2100acres, the west has 3000 and the north has 1100. I have a membership cap on all three sides. the dues are .00 This includes insurance. 100.00 will be deducted from total dues, if member performs 2 full days work on land, such as trimming fire lanes, roads and planting food plots. I've been on the Alabama deer management program for 17 yrs. I try to keep our doe-buck ratio at state recommendations, in order to have more healthy deer. I have a 14" min. inside spread limit on bucks, allowing " what I call a slip up buck " for each member. This buck has to be at least a 12 inch inside spread. I try to eliminate at least 55 doe per yr.
