| Actors Theatre was formed in 1986 by a group of Phoenix-based actors, directors and teachers who wished to see their home community become a place where excellent theatre could flourish and where professional theatre artists could live and work. Its original bylaws described a theatre company whose main ambition was to perform plays which would be emotionally stirring, intellectually significant and joyfully entertaining - dealing with subjects relevant to the modern world and peopled with characters whose goals and ambitions were both recognizable and relevant to their audience.Actors Theatre has aspired to hire the best professional actors available and to enhance their work with the best talent to produce, direct and create visual spectacle which would result in a dramatic event the creative community, and the city of Phoenix as a whole, could be proud to have in its midst.
