Description
The Santa Rita Lodge is situated above a stream in the heart of Madera Canyon at an elevation of 4,800 feet. It is an ideal place to relax and enjoy the abundant wildlife of the Coronado National Forest. The Lodge offers morning bird walks every weekday in March, April and May, and every Monday, Wednesday and Friday during June, July and August. The fee is $12.00 per person and reservations must be made. In addition to the walks the lodge offers an extensive natural history program with classes on geology, astronomy, bats (eleven species found in Madera Canyon), mammals, hummingbirds, insects and botany. Top professionals in their fields conduct the classes. Accommodations range from $73.00 to $93.00 per night for one or two persons. Discounts are available during the off-season - October through January. Rooms and cabins all have well equipped kitchens; color TV, tub & shower, barbecues and air conditioning. We recommend making reservations months in advance for spring and summer birding season. Weeks in advance for the rest of the year. We do get cancellations; so don't hesitate to call at last minute. Deposits are $30.00 per night. Visa, Master Card and American Express accepted.
